The Cleveland Furniture Bank (CFB) was created in 2006 with a mission “to provide furniture and mattresses to people in need who seek to establish a stable place to live.”

CFB works with 148 agencies and organizations that are helping people recover from a personal or natural disaster. The individuals and families referred to our Furniture for Families and Beds for Kids program include veterans, domestically abused women, young adults aging out of the foster care system, mentally and physically challenged adults, people who lost everything due to fire or flood, and others who have been homeless for a variety of reasons.

Annually, Cleveland Furniture Bank provides couches, chairs, dining sets, dressers, mattresses and box springs, small tables, lamps and dishes to 3500 to 4000 people. In addition, it provides between 1100 and 1200 new beds and mattresses to the children of the families referred. In order to provide the furniture to the families, CFB picks up furniture and other items from individuals and businesses in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit, Medina and Lorain counties.

Environmental impact. Through its efforts, Cleveland Furniture Bank not only provides thousands of needy families with the furniture they need to turn a house into a home but also is part of the environmental effort to reduce the amount of items that might end up in landfills.

SHAKER HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Mission. The Shaker Historical Society is a non-profit organization, established in 1947 to provide stewardship for our region's significant history by nurturing respectful discovery, preservation, collection, and public dissemination of the history, traditions, and heritage of the Shaker sect, Shaker Heights, Warrensville Township, and the surrounding areas.

Location. The home of The Shaker Historical Society is situated on the grounds of the former North Union Center Family's apple orchard and vegetable garden and was the former home of Louis Myers, a real estate agent for the Van Sweringen Company, and his wife, Blanche. From the Myers Mansion we operate a museum, a public research library and archives, an art gallery, a local gift shop and community garden beds.

To this day, we are proud to be at the forefront of social service providers in the Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood. By removing barriers to help families overcome poverty, we empower citizens to maximize their potential and reach their goals. We do this by protecting and educating children, advancing literacy and job readiness, providing nutritious and sustaining meals, strengthening families, and serving the elderly.

Community Greenhouse Partners was founded in December 2010 with a mission to “grow” urban farmers by training them in land conservancy and soil repair, growing techniques and technology, horticulture and aquaculture, nutrition, and food justice.

Mission: CGP is developing programs that combine earth, food, employment, self- worth, education, and opportunity into a replicable, sustainable system that benefits both the individual as well as the community.

Values:

A valued, sustainable community is one that integrates human capital into a balanced ecosystem.

Changes to the environment must be considered for their impact on the next seven generations.

Changing the dynamics of a community begins with opportunity and creating the tools to achieve it.

A healthy community is one that provides for the whole person.

Respect for the individual, community, and the environment must be integrated into all our actions. Our actions and accomplishments will be measured by our impact on the individual, the community, and the environment.
